Fair housing isn’t optional. At Compass, we believe inclusion and innovation must go hand in hand. That’s why we have taken concrete, proactive steps to ensure Compass Private Exclusives fully align with Fair Housing principles.


In September 2024, Compass hired the nation’s leading fair housing lawyer, John Relman, to review our practices—and Compass followed his guidance to the letter. Every time a buyer searches on Compass.com, they’re clearly informed that Private Exclusives exist, how many match their specific search criteria, and how to access them by contacting a Compass agent. He outlined that by doing this, “Compass is treating everyone equally. Nobody could credibly claim that Compass is trying to hide listings.” Compass is the only brokerage doing this.


This isn’t about hiding. It’s about providing homeowners with more marketing options to choose from.


Fair housing is about equal access—not one-size-fits-all marketing.
